Description of the Birth/Manifestation of Śiva’s Son
The Devas (gods)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Type: stotra
It highlights śaraṇāgati—complete surrender to Śiva as Pati (the Lord). When even the Devas are overwhelmed by a consuming force, they turn to Śambhu as the sole refuge and protector, teaching that liberation and safety arise from dependence on Śiva’s grace rather than one’s own power.
The Devas address Śiva by personal names—Śambhu, Śiva, Maheśāna—showing Saguna devotion: praying to the compassionate Lord who responds to suffering. In Linga worship too, the devotee approaches Śiva as the accessible, grace-giving protector who receives surrender and removes burning afflictions.
The core practice is śaraṇāgati with mantra-japa—especially the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”)—offered with humility. As a Shaiva remedy for inner “burning,” one may combine japa with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and devotion to Śiva’s protective aspect (Śambhu).
