The Exposition of the Maheśa Mantra
Mahēśa-mantra-prakāśana
ब्रह्मेष्टदा तृतीयास्याच्छिवो मे अस्तु तत्परा । मरीचिः कथिता विप्र चतुर्थी च सदाशिवे ॥ ६५ ॥
brahmeṣṭadā tṛtīyāsyācchivo me astu tatparā | marīciḥ kathitā vipra caturthī ca sadāśive || 65 ||
« Brahmeṣṭadā » doit être placé/récité comme la troisième attribution ; que Śiva soit souverainement dévoué à Cela. Ô brāhmane, Marīci a été déclaré dans cet ordre, et la quatrième attribution est en Sadāśiva.
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada in a technical/ritual sequencing context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It presents a technical, ordered mapping of names/mantras and divine principles—linking a specific mantra-term (“Brahmeṣṭadā”), the sage Marīci, and the form Sadāśiva—showing that correct sequence and focused intent (tatparatā) are integral to efficacious worship.
Bhakti here is expressed as “tatparā”—single-pointed devotion—applied within disciplined worship. The verse implies that devotion is strengthened when aligned with a prescribed ritual/mantric order centered on Śiva/Sadāśiva.
It reflects procedural precision typical of Vedāṅga-informed practice—ordered recitation/placement (third, fourth) used in mantra-application (nyāsa/krama), where correct sequencing and identification of associated ṛṣis/deities are essential.
