The Exposition of Hanumān’s Protective Kavaca
Māruti-kavaca
पयः पाषाणतरणकारणाय नमोनमः । बालार्कमंडलग्रासकारिणे दुःखहारिणे ॥ ४२ ॥
payaḥ pāṣāṇataraṇakāraṇāya namonamaḥ | bālārkamaṃḍalagrāsakāriṇe duḥkhahāriṇe || 42 ||
Hommage, encore et encore, à Celui qui fait que même les pierres traversent sur l’eau ; hommage à Celui qui peut engloutir l’orbe du soleil levant, Lui qui enlève la peine.
Narada (hymnic praise within the Narada–Sanatkumara dialogue frame)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It praises the Lord’s inconceivable power—turning the impossible into possible—and affirms Him as the direct remover of duḥkha, encouraging surrender (śaraṇāgati) through stotra.
Bhakti is expressed as repeated namaskāra and remembrance of divine deeds/epithets; the devotee focuses on God’s might and compassion, cultivating trust that suffering is dispelled by His grace.
A Vedanga-style takeaway is semantic clarity (nirukta-like): unpacking compound epithets and their meanings to support correct recitation, contemplation, and ritual/chanting application.
