The Greatness of the Gaṅgā
Gaṅgāmāhātmya
योऽसावनादिः सर्वज्ञो जगतामादिकृद्विभुः । नित्यं संनिहितस्तत्र लिङ्गरूपी जनार्दनः ॥ ५० ॥
yo'sāvanādiḥ sarvajño jagatāmādikṛdvibhuḥ | nityaṃ saṃnihitastatra liṅgarūpī janārdanaḥ || 50 ||
Ce Janārdana—sans commencement, omniscient, origine et artisan des mondes, l’Omniprésent—demeure là pour l’éternité, présent sous la forme du liṅga.
Narada
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It affirms that the Supreme Lord (Janārdana) is beginningless, omniscient, and the source of creation, yet graciously remains eternally accessible through a visible sacred form (liṅga-rūpa) for worship and realization.
By stating that the all-pervading Lord is “nityaṃ saṃnihitaḥ” (ever-present) in a worshipable form, it validates bhakti through arcana (iconic worship): devotion becomes direct, steady, and approachable because the Lord’s presence is not merely abstract but near and continuous.
The verse supports practical ritual application (kalpa-oriented practice): recognizing the Lord’s sanctioned presence in an iconic form guides correct temple/ritual worship (arcana, upacāras), though no specific Vedāṅga like Vyākaraṇa or Jyotiṣa is explicitly taught in this line.
