Tourné vers l’est ou bien vers le nord, les sens maîtrisés, on doit accomplir l’ācamana. Qu’on boive l’eau par petites gorgées trois ou quatre fois—une eau sans odeur, sans écume et sans autres impuretés.
Sūta (narrating the teaching as transmitted in the Purāṇic dialogue)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta (peace)
Secondary Rasa: none
It links inner discipline (sense-restraint) with outer purity (ācamana), teaching that ritual purification is effective when performed with controlled mind and clean water.
By prescribing ācamana before sacred acts, it supports bhakti as a disciplined practice—preparing the devotee’s body and mind for worship and mantra with reverence and purity.
It highlights kalpa/ritual procedure: correct orientation (east/north), number of sips (three or four), and the required purity of water—core details of Vaidika conduct.
