The Pañcarātra Vow (Haripañcaka Vrata): Observance from Śukla Ekādaśī to Pūrṇimā
Sanatkumara (in instruction to Narada, describing the proper conclusion of a vrata/upavasa)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It frames fasting (upavāsa) not as mere abstinence but as a devotional act completed through prayerful surrender to the Jagatsvāmin and through indriya-nigraha (sense-restraint), which is presented as the real inner success of the observance.
Bhakti is shown as petitioning the Lord with humility—“by Your command”—and trusting Him as the giver of results, while the devotee aligns conduct (self-control) with devotion, completing the vrata in a disciplined, God-centered way.
The verse primarily highlights ritual discipline (vrata-vidhi) rather than a specific Vedāṅga; the practical takeaway is the procedural emphasis that an upavāsa should be concluded with controlled senses and a formal prayer seeking the Lord’s grace.
