Bhāgīratha’s Bringing of the Gaṅgā
Narada
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It is a devotional salutation (namaskāra) to Śiva as the cosmic ruler (Lokādhinātha) and Paśupati, emphasizing that the Lord alone governs the binding and release of beings through māyā.
By repeating “namo/namaḥ” and invoking specific divine epithets (Nīlagrīva, Paśupati), the verse models bhakti as humble surrender and remembrance of the deity’s powers rather than intellectual argument.
Primarily Chandas/prayoga-style stotra usage: concise epithets and repeated namaskāra function as a practical mantra-like prayer, suitable for ritual recitation (japa) even without extended liturgy.
