The Narration of the Brāhma Purāṇa’s Account
Brāhma Purāṇānukramaṇikā
सोऽपि सर्वपुराणस्य श्रोतुर्वक्तुः फलं लभेत् । श्रृणोति यः पुराणं तु ब्रह्मं सर्वं जितेंद्रियः ॥ ४७ ॥
so'pi sarvapurāṇasya śroturvaktuḥ phalaṃ labhet | śrṛṇoti yaḥ purāṇaṃ tu brahmaṃ sarvaṃ jiteṃdriyaḥ || 47 ||
Celui qui, maître de ses sens, écoute ce Purāṇa, entièrement Brahman (la Vérité suprême), obtient aussi le fruit de tous les Purāṇas : le mérite de l’auditeur comme du récitant.
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada in the Purāṇic summary context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It declares that disciplined listening (śravaṇa) to the Purāṇa, with mastery over the senses, yields the same comprehensive merit as engaging with all Purāṇas—equal to both reciting and hearing—because the text is treated as Brahman (supreme truth) in teaching form.
By elevating attentive hearing to a complete spiritual practice, it supports the bhakti principle that sincere śravaṇa of sacred narratives and teachings purifies the heart and grants high spiritual fruit when done with self-restraint.
It emphasizes the discipline of practice rather than a specific Vedāṅga: self-control (jitendriyatva) and the regulated act of śravaṇa are presented as the practical method for receiving Purāṇic wisdom and its results.
