FAQs

It highlights guru-paramparā as the sanctified channel of Purāṇic knowledge: the narrator (Sūta) seeks Vyāsa’s presence, and the sages honor him, showing that teaching is upheld by reverence, lineage, and disciplined transmission.

Bhakti here is expressed as sevā and vandanā—going to the guru with humility and honoring the teacher-narrator—indicating that devotion is not only toward Viṣṇu but also toward the sacred means of receiving dharma-śravaṇa.

The verse underscores the practical discipline of śravaṇa (listening) within a recognized lineage—an essential method for preserving śāstra—rather than a specific Vedāṅga topic like Vyākaraṇa or Jyotiṣa.
