Account of the Aṣṭamī Vow Across the Twelve Months

Vrata: Dvādaśa-māsa-sthita Aṣṭamī-vrata (Aṣṭamī vow observed across twelve months)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: none
This is a colophon that formally concludes Adhyāya 117, preserving the Purāṇic transmission by naming the section, pāda, and the chapter’s subject—Aṣṭamī-vrata observed across twelve months—thereby anchoring the practice within śāstric authority.
While it does not teach bhakti directly, it frames a vrata-kathā context: in Purāṇic tradition, month-by-month vows (vratas) are typically performed with devotion, remembrance, and worship, making disciplined observance a support for sustained bhakti.
The verse reflects calendrical and ritual organization—month-based (dvādaśamāsa) vrata structuring—closely aligned with Vedāṅga concerns such as proper timing and ritual order (especially the calendrical discipline associated with Jyotiṣa and Kalpa in practice).
