Yudhiṣṭhira’s Rationale for Sending Arjuna and Request to Dhaumya
The verse elevates tīrtha-yātrā and dāna: sincere giving at a sacred confluence is said to yield merit comparable to the Aśvamedha and to lead the giver toward exalted divine realms, emphasizing accessible ethical action (charity) over costly ritual alone.
Within the Vana Parva’s tīrtha-yātrā discourse, the speaker praises the Niścīrā-saṅgama as a renowned pilgrimage site, describing the spiritual rewards of visiting and giving there, and noting the nearby, tri-loka-famous hermitage of Vasiṣṭha.
