Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Sacrifice Commences and the Pandavas’ Reply to the Invitation
ततो<परैरवार्यन्त गन्धर्वै: कुरुसैनिका: । ते वार्यमाणा गन्धर्वै: साम्नैव वसुधाधिप
tato 'parair avāryanta gandharvaiḥ kuru-sainikāḥ | te vāryamāṇā gandharvaiḥ sāmnaiva vasudhādhipa, tatas te khecarāḥ sarve citrasenam nyavedayan |
Vaiśampāyana dit : Alors les soldats kuru furent retenus par d’autres Gandharvas. Pourtant, bien que ceux-ci ne les arrêtassent que par des paroles conciliantes et pacifiques, les troupes méprisèrent l’avertissement et avancèrent. Lorsque les Kauravas, avec le roi Duryodhana parmi eux, ne s’arrêtèrent pas malgré les remontrances, tous ces Gandharvas qui parcourent le ciel rapportèrent l’affaire entière au roi Citrasena.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Gentle, peace-oriented counsel (sāman) is a dharmic first response; ignoring rightful warnings out of pride leads to escalation and the loss of moral standing, inviting stronger corrective action.
Gandharvas attempt to stop the Kuru troops with conciliatory words, but the soldiers disregard them and proceed; the Gandharvas then report the situation to their leader, King Citrasena, setting up the ensuing confrontation.
