तृष्णाक्षय-उपदेशः

Instruction on the Cessation of Craving

गृहस्थ एव यजते गृहस्थस्तप्यते तप: । गार्हस्थ्यमस्य धर्मस्य मूलं य्किंचिदेजते

gṛhastha eva yajate gṛhasthas tapyate tapaḥ | gārhasthyam asya dharmasya mūlaṃ yat kiñcid ejate ||

Kapila dit : «C’est le maître de maison seul qui accomplit le sacrifice, et c’est le maître de maison qui entreprend l’austérité. La voie du foyer (gārhasthya-āśrama) est la racine de tout ce dharma, car tout effort salutaire qu’un homme accomplit dans le monde repose, en dernière instance, sur l’appui et la stabilité que procure l’āśrama du gṛhastha.»
