त्रिधाभूतेषु सैन्येषु वध्यमानेषु पाण्डवै: । अमर्षितस्ततो द्रोण: पञ्चालान् व्यधमच्छरै:,जब पाण्डवोंके द्वारा मारी जाती हुई कौरव-सेना तीन भागोंमें बँट गयी, तब द्रोणाचार्यने अत्यन्त कुपित होकर अपने बाणोंद्वारा पांचालोॉंका विनाश आरम्भ किया
tridhābhūteṣu sainyeṣu vadhyamāneṣu pāṇḍavaiḥ | amarṣitas tato droṇaḥ pañcālān vyadhamac charaiḥ ||
Sañjaya dit : Lorsque l’armée des Kaurava, taillée en pièces par les Pāṇḍava, se scinda en trois divisions, Droṇa—ne pouvant le supporter—s’emporta avec fureur et se mit à anéantir les Pañcāla par des volées de flèches. Le vers souligne que l’orgueil blessé et la colère, une fois lâchés dans la guerre, redoublent la violence et élargissent le cercle de la souffrance.
