Chapter 91: Sātyaki breaks the elephant array and slays Jalasaṃdha
ततः क्रुद्धों महाबाहुर्वार्यमाण: परैर्युधि । शिरांसि रथिनां पार्थ: कायेभ्योडपाहरच्छरै:,उस समय युद्धस्थलमें शत्रुओंके द्वारा रोके जानेपर महाबाहु अर्जुन कुपित हो उठे और अपने बाणोंद्वारा रथियोंके मस्तकोंको उनके शरीरोंसे काटकर गिराने लगे
tataḥ kruddho mahābāhur vāryamāṇaḥ parair yudhi | śirāṃsi rathināṃ pārthaḥ kāyebhyo ’pāharac charaiḥ ||
Sañjaya dit : Alors Arjuna, le fils de Pṛthā aux bras puissants, irrité d’être contenu par l’ennemi au cœur de la mêlée, se mit à trancher de ses flèches les têtes des guerriers en char, les séparant de leurs corps et les faisant choir. Le vers souligne l’escalade farouche qui survient lorsque la retenue cède dans la guerre : la vaillance et la colère font de l’adresse une décision meurtrière, dans la rude éthique du devoir sur le champ de bataille.
