Chapter 111
The verse highlights how warfare can devolve into an escalating cycle of deception: when one side relies on māyā (stratagem/illusion), the other responds in kind, intensifying confusion and moral ambiguity. It implicitly raises an ethical tension between tactical success and the erosion of straightforward dharmic conduct.
Sañjaya describes a situation in which opposing forces (implied by “the two”) continually deploy numerous deceptive tactics against each other, each attempting to outwit and bewilder the other through repeated stratagems.
