शिखण्डी तु रणे राजन् विव्याधैव पितामहम् । शरैरशनिसंस्पर्शैस्तथा सर्पविषोपमै:,महाराज! उस समय रणक्षेत्रमें शिखण्डी वज्रके समान स्पर्शवाले तथा सर्पविषके समान भयंकर बाणोंद्वारा पितामह भीष्मको घायल करने लगा
sañjaya uvāca | śikhaṇḍī tu raṇe rājan vivyādhaiva pitāmaham | śarair aśani-saṃsparśais tathā sarpa-viṣopamaiḥ ||
Sañjaya dit : Ô Roi, au plus fort de la bataille, Śikhaṇḍī se mit à percer l’aïeul Bhīṣma de flèches—dont le choc était comme le toucher de la foudre et l’horreur semblable au venin des serpents—montrant qu’en guerre, même l’ancien le plus vénéré peut être pris pour cible lorsque la stratégie et les inimitiés d’autrefois font tourner la marée contre lui.
