नक्षत्रेषु श्राद्धफलविधानम् (Śrāddha Outcomes According to Nakṣatras)
अग्निने गुणवान् बकरा, इलाने बहुतसे फल-फूल, सुधन्वाने छकड़ा और विशाल कूबरसे युक्त रथ दिये ।।
varuṇo vāruṇān divyān sagajān pradadau śubhān | siṃhān surendro vyāghrāṃś ca dvipān anyāṃś ca pakṣiṇaḥ ||
Bhishma dit : «Agni offrit un bouc de grande valeur ; Ilā accorda quantité de fleurs et de fruits ; Sudhanvan donna un chariot et un char muni d’un vaste coffre. Varuṇa prodigua de splendides dons divins qui lui étaient propres : d’excellents éléphants et d’autres biens de bon augure. Indra, seigneur des dieux, accorda pareillement des créatures puissantes : lions et tigres, ainsi que des éléphants et des oiseaux de diverses espèces.»
भीष्म उवाच
The verse underscores the dharmic idea that rewards and resources should be bestowed in harmony with cosmic order: divine rulers grant appropriate, auspicious gifts to the deserving, implying that power and wealth are meaningful when aligned with righteousness and proper conduct.
Bhīṣma is recounting a distribution of divine gifts: Varuṇa grants Varuṇa-associated celestial possessions including elephants, and Indra grants formidable creatures such as lions, tigers, elephants, and birds—illustrating a scene of bestowal and honor.
