Mataṅga–Gardabhī Itihāsa
काम॑ क्रोधं च लोभं च यो जित्वा तीर्थमावसेत् । न तेन किज्विन्न प्राप्त तीर्थाभिगमनाद् भवेत्
kāmaṁ krodhaṁ ca lobhaṁ ca yo jitvā tīrtham āvaset | na tena kiñcid aprāptaṁ tīrthābhigamanād bhavet ||
Celui qui a vaincu le désir, la colère et l’avidité, puis demeure en un tīrtha, obtient le vrai fruit du pèlerinage : pour un tel homme, rien ne demeure hors d’atteinte grâce au mérite né de la visite des lieux saints.

Pilgrimage bears its highest fruit when one has first mastered the inner foes—desire, anger, and greed. External sacred travel is presented as truly efficacious only when supported by inner discipline and moral restraint.
