Shloka 14

हतशिष्टैनुपैश्चान्यै्नानादेशसमागतै: । रक्षिभिश्व महात्मानं रक्ष्यमाणं समन्ततः,नाना देशोंसे आये हुए नरेश, जो मरनेसे बच गये थे, रक्षक बनकर चारों ओरसे महात्मा भीष्मकी रक्षा करते थे

hataśiṣṭair nṛpaiś cānyair nānādeśasamāgataiḥ | rakṣibhiś ca mahātmānaṃ rakṣyamāṇaṃ samantataḥ ||

Vaiśaṃpāyana dit : Les rois qui avaient survécu au carnage, ainsi que d’autres souverains venus de contrées diverses, se tinrent en gardes tout autour, protégeant Bhīṣma au grand cœur, tandis qu’on veillait sur lui et qu’on le soignait de toutes parts. La scène souligne un renversement dharmique : même dans l’après-guerre, l’honneur et le devoir contraignent les vivants à préserver le vénérable ancien, reconnaissant sa stature au-delà des haines de faction.
