अध्याय १६ — शङ्कर-उमा-वरदानम् तथा तण्डि-स्तुतिः (Śaṅkara–Umā Boon-Granting and Taṇḍi’s Hymn)
दशनामसहस््राणि देवेष्वाह पितामह: । शर्वस्य शास्त्रेषु तथा दशनामशतानि च,पितामह ब्रह्माने पूर्वकालमें देवताओंके निकट महादेवजीके दस हजार नाम बताये थे और शास््त्रोंमें भी उनके सहस्र नाम वर्णित हैं
daśanāmasahasrāṇi deveṣv āha pitāmahaḥ | śarvasya śāstreṣu tathā daśanāmaśatāni ca ||
Vāyu dit : «Autrefois, l’Aïeul (Brahmā) proclama aux dieux les dix mille noms de Śarva (Śiva). De même, les Écritures consignent aussi des centaines de ses noms.» Cette parole souligne que l’on s’approche du divin par de multiples épithètes, et que la remémoration révérencieuse du Nom (nāma) est une voie de dévotion reconnue par la tradition.
