अध्याय १६ — शङ्कर-उमा-वरदानम् तथा तण्डि-स्तुतिः (Śaṅkara–Umā Boon-Granting and Taṇḍi’s Hymn)
यानि च प्रथितान्यादौ तण्डिराख्यातवान् मम । नामानि मानवश्रेष्ठ तानि त्वं शृणु सिद्धये
yāni ca prathitāny ādau taṇḍir ākhyātavān mama | nāmāni mānavaśreṣṭha tāni tvaṃ śṛṇu siddhaye ||
Vāyu dit : «Ô le meilleur des hommes, écoute pour ton accomplissement ces noms célèbres depuis l’origine, ceux que le sage Taṇḍi me rapporta jadis. On dit que les entendre confère la réussite spirituelle.»
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse emphasizes the power of revered, anciently transmitted sacred names: listening to them with faith and attention is presented as a means toward siddhi—spiritual accomplishment and inner purification—grounded in authoritative tradition.
Vāyu addresses a human interlocutor (‘best of men’) and introduces a set of celebrated names that the sage Taṇḍi previously narrated to him, inviting the listener to hear them for the sake of attaining success.
