Suta Goswami (narrating the puranic account; the verse expresses a supplicatory prayer-voice within the narrative)
It frames Shiva-puja as a purificatory act: through devotion to Śambhu and the sanctifying presence of his attendants, the worshipper prays for removal of mala (inner defilement) and pāpa (sin), preparing the pashu (individual soul) for Shiva’s grace.
By invoking Śambhu as the one whose sphere purifies, it implies Shiva as Pati—the Lord whose grace dissolves bondage (pāśa) in the form of impurity and sin, restoring the soul toward śuddhi (purity) and auspiciousness.
Atonement through Shiva-puja and devotional bhāva is highlighted—an inner discipline aligned with Pāśupata orientation, where purification (removal of mala and pāpa) is sought as a prerequisite for steadiness in worship and yoga.
