भुवनकोशविन्यासनिर्णयः (ज्योतिर्गति-वृष्टिचक्र-वर्णनम्)
मृतधूमोद्भवं त्वभ्रम् अशुभाय भविष्यति अभिचाराग्निधूमोत्थं भूतनाशाय वै द्विजाः
mṛtadhūmodbhavaṃ tvabhram aśubhāya bhaviṣyati abhicārāgnidhūmotthaṃ bhūtanāśāya vai dvijāḥ
Ô deux-fois-nés, la nuée née de la fumée des morts deviendra un signe d’inauspice ; et la nuée issue de la fumée d’un feu d’abhicāra (sorcellerie hostile) présage la destruction des êtres. Selon l’entendement śaiva, de tels signes tamasiques indiquent que le pāśa (lien) se resserre sur le paśu (l’âme liée) lorsque le dharma et la pūjā de Śiva sont négligés.

It warns that tamasic influences—death-associated smoke and hostile rites—manifest as inauspicious omens; the implied remedy is to return to sattvic Śiva-pūjā, mantra, and dharmic conduct so the paśu is protected under Pati (Śiva).
By contrast: Shiva-tattva is the purifying, auspicious principle (śiva = auspiciousness) that loosens pāśa; the verse highlights what happens when one turns away from that auspicious order—inauspicious nimittas and harm arise.
It implicitly cautions against abhicāra (harmful ritual magic) and points toward sattvic disciplines—Śiva-mantra japa, liṅga-arcana, and Pāśupata-style inner purification—to prevent tamasic downfall.
