Chapter 92 — प्रतिष्ठाविधिकथनम्
Narration of the Consecration / Installation Procedure

Application: Apply when a liṅga is displaced/damaged/relocated: perform removal, re-seating, then saṃskāras to avoid ritual defect and re-activate worship eligibility.

It defines the utthāpana rite as the re-installation of a Śiva-liṅga, explicitly stating that it is preceded by liṅgoddhāra (ritual extraction) and completed by performing the required saṃskāras (re-sanctifying consecrations) after re-placing the liṅga.
It preserves a specialized, procedural vocabulary of temple ritual—liṅgoddhāra, utthāpana, and saṃskāra—showing the Agni Purana’s coverage of practical liturgy and installation-rites alongside its broader teachings on dharma, polity, arts, and other sciences.
By insisting on proper extraction, re-placement, and saṃskāra, the verse emphasizes restoring ritual purity and sanctity of the shrine—ensuring the deity’s seat is re-established in a dharmic manner, which is traditionally held to preserve auspiciousness and remove fault (doṣa) from improper handling.
