Agni Purana — Vastu-Pratishtha & Isana-kalpa, Shloka 3

Chapter 92 — प्रतिष्ठाविधिकथनम्

Narration of the Consecration / Installation Procedure

FAQs

It defines the technical meaning of “sthāpana” in pratiṣṭhā-rituals: the correct placement of the deity/installed object upon the pīṭha, and it distinguishes a specific category termed “sthita-sthāpana” (fixed establishment).

It functions like a ritual-technical glossary entry, giving precise operational definitions used in temple installation manuals—showing the Agni Purāṇa’s coverage of applied liturgy, icon-installation procedure, and vāstu-aligned placement rules.

Correct placement on the pīṭha is treated as essential to a valid consecration; accuracy in sthāpana supports ritual purity, stability of the installed presence, and the expected religious merit (puṇya) from properly performed pratiṣṭhā.
