Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tantra","secondary_vidya":"Mantra","practical_application":"Initiation/mandala procedure: placing an amṛta-drop from arghya on the disciple’s crown and directing obeisance to Īśa and kumbhas/deities positioned to Śiva’s right in the mandala.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Amṛta-bindu on śiṣya-mūrdhan and dakṣiṇa-maṇḍala praṇāma (Īśa-kumbha worship)","lookup_keywords":["arghya","amṛta-bindu","mūrdhan","maṇḍala","Īśa"],"quick_summary":"Consecrate the disciple by placing a nectar-drop from arghya-water on the crown, then perform ordered salutations to Īśa, the ritual kumbhas, and associated mandala-deities on Śiva’s right side."}

Concept: Dīkṣā/maṇḍala worship transmits sanctity through amṛta-bindu and disciplined spatial devotion; bodily locus (crown) and cosmic locus (mandala) are linked.

Application: In mandala rites, maintain correct directional protocol (dakṣiṇa of Śiva), use arghya as consecratory medium, and seal the disciple’s entry with crown-anointment plus formal praṇāma sequence.

Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Tantric initiation and mandala worship procedures)

Primary Rasa: bhakti

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Within a Śaiva mandala, the officiant places a single shining amṛta-drop from arghya-water onto the disciple’s crown; the disciple then bows toward Īśa and the ritual kumbhas arranged on Śiva’s right side.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, circular mandala with Śiva at center, right side showing Īśa and decorated kumbhas, priest touching disciple’s crown with a drop, stylized lotus patterns, warm temple colors and clear directional composition.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore, central Śiva mandala with gold-embossed borders, ornate kumbhas on the right, priest anointing disciple’s crown with a bright pearl-like drop, heavy gold work on vessels and halos.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore style, diagrammatic clarity: mandala layout with right-side (dakṣiṇa) deities labeled, close-up of crown anointment, fine lines and soft palette, instructional emphasis on sequence of bows.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, detailed mandala floor design, elegant vessels (kumbhas) with floral motifs, intimate moment of crown anointment, disciple in respectful bow, refined architectural setting and delicate color washes."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes:

FAQs

It gives a dīkṣā-step: applying an amṛta-bindu (consecrated drop) from arghya-water onto the disciple’s crown and directing obeisance to Īśa and kumbha-associated mandala powers in the prescribed (dakṣiṇa/right) sector.

It preserves precise procedural details of mandala-based worship and initiation—showing the Agni Purana’s coverage beyond myth into applied ritual technology (pūjā-vidhi, placement, sequencing, and mandala orientation).

The amṛta-bindu functions as a purification and consecration mark, while bowing to Īśa and the mandala powers establishes humility, alignment with the ritual order, and eligibility for the initiated practice.
