Adhyāya 88 — निर्वाणदीक्षाकथनं
Teaching of the Nirvāṇa-Initiation

Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tantra","secondary_vidya":"Ayurveda","practical_application":"Applying phonemic mapping (a to visarga) in mantra-nyāsa and subtle-body practice; recognizing named nāḍīs (Kuhū, Śaṅkhinī) and vāyus (Devadatta, Dhanañjaya) for prāṇa-oriented sādhanā and yogic diagnostics.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"List","entry_title":"Varṇa-span (a–ḥ), nāḍī names (Kuhū, Śaṅkhinī) and vāyu names (Devadatta, Dhanañjaya)","lookup_keywords":["a-kāra to visarga","Kuhū nāḍī","Śaṅkhinī nāḍī","Devadatta vāyu","Dhanañjaya vāyu"],"quick_summary":"Lists the phonemic range a–ḥ as constituents used with bīja/deha-kāraka notions, and names two nāḍīs and two subsidiary vital airs—useful for nyāsa and prāṇa-vicāra."}
Concept: The body is approached as a mantra-structured field (varṇa-span) animated by nāḍīs and vāyus; sound and prāṇa are coordinated instruments of sādhanā.
Application: Use varṇa-nyāsa with breath-awareness; in yoga practice, track prāṇa responses (lightness, steadiness, agitation) as feedback rather than chasing extraordinary effects.

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Related Themes: Agni Purana 88 (yoga–tantra, nāḍī–prāṇa vidyā context)
It gives a technical enumeration used in yoga–tantra: identifying specific nāḍīs (Kuhū, Śaṅkhinī) and minor vital airs (Devadatta, Dhanañjaya), alongside phonemic/mantric categories (a-to-visarga; vīja).
Beyond mythology, it preserves specialized lists from mantra-śāstra and subtle-body physiology—material typically found in yoga and tantra manuals—showing the Purāṇa’s compendium-style coverage of technical disciplines.
Such naming-lists support disciplined practice (japa, prāṇāyāma, and dhyāna) by mapping mantra-sound and prāṇic functions; correct knowledge is traditionally held to aid purification and steadiness of mind in sādhanā.
