Agni Purana — Vastu-Pratishtha & Isana-kalpa, Shloka 20

Pratiṣṭhā-Kalaśa-Śodhana-Ukti (Instruction on Purifying the Consecration Pitcher) — Chapter 85

FAQs

It teaches a mantra-prayoga combining an implement (weapon) fitted with a noose (pāśa), the aṅkuśa-mudrā (goad/compelling gesture), and an astrā-style mantra ending in svāhā to perform ākarṣaṇa—drawing/compelling the intended target into one’s ‘heart’ locus for ritual control.

Beyond mythic narration, it preserves applied ritual technology—specific mudrās, bīja-mantras, and procedural steps (instrument + gesture + mantra + inner sealing). This is characteristic of the Agni Purana’s wide scope, documenting practical disciplines alongside theology.

The verse frames the act as a controlled, mantra-governed rite: the practitioner first ‘seals’ the inner self (puṭita-ātmā) and then acts through empowered speech and gesture, implying purification through disciplined ritual containment and the safe handling of potent astrā-mantra forces.
