FAQs

It provides a formal Purāṇic enumeration (nāma-saṅgraha) of the Vāruṇa class—names used for cosmological mapping, recitation, and traditional cataloguing of Varuṇa’s domain.

By preserving structured lists of deity-classes and their members, the text functions like a reference index for Purāṇic cosmology—similar to how other chapters catalogue rites, polity, medicine, or poetics.

Remembering and reciting such sanctioned divine catalogues is traditionally treated as smṛti-based merit (puṇya) and supports correct devotional orientation toward Varuṇa and the cosmic order (ṛta).
