Chapter 83 — निर्वाणदीक्षाकथनम्
Description of the Nirvāṇa Initiation
Lord Agni (narrating to the sage Vasiṣṭha in the Agni Purana’s instructional frame)
Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Cosmology","secondary_vidya":"Philosophy","practical_application":"Tattva-vicāra mapping: for each functional principle (vījana/nāḍī/samīra and the two senses), identify its tattva-status, its viṣaya (object-field), and its guṇa-pañcaka to support yogic analysis and ritual correspondences.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"List","entry_title":"Tattva–viṣaya–guṇa-pañcaka mapping for vījana, nāḍī, samīra and two indriyas","lookup_keywords":["tattva","viṣaya","guṇa-pañcaka","nāḍī","samīra"],"quick_summary":"The text sets a schema: each item under analysis is defined by (1) its principle, (2) its object-domain, and (3) a fivefold quality-set—useful for systematic cosmology and yogic discrimination."}
Dosha: Vata
Concept: Viveka through categorization: knowing a thing by its principle, its object, and its qualities is a method of discriminative insight used in Sāṅkhya–Yoga style analysis.
Application: Use the threefold lens (tattva/viṣaya/guṇa) to observe sensory experience and prāṇic movement, reducing confusion between knower, knowing, and known.
Khanda Section: Sankhya–Yoga / Tattva-nirupana (Cosmology of elements, senses, and qualities)
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A schematic teaching scene: a guru points to a diagram showing nāḍīs as channels, samīra as flowing winds, and two senses with their objects; beside each are three labels—tattva, viṣaya, and five guṇas—arranged in a grid.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, stylized human subtle-body with branching nāḍīs, swirling wind motifs, two highlighted sense organs, grid panels with Sanskrit labels, earthy palette with strong outlines, didactic sacred-diagram aesthetic.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore, central subtle-body diagram framed by gold, lotus medallions for guṇa-pañcaka (five petals), rich ornamented border, guru-disciple pair at bottom corners, luminous finish.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, clean instructional chart: nāḍī network, arrows for samīra flow, two indriyas with object icons, neatly written labels for tattva/viṣaya/guṇa-pañcaka, soft colors and precision.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, scholarly atelier: teacher with manuscript, students, a large illustrated folio showing channels and winds, delicate wash colors, fine calligraphy panels for the threefold categories."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"contemplative","suggested_raga":"Todi","pace":"slow","voice_tone":"instructional"}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: dvayorindriyayorapi → dvayoḥ indriyayoḥ api; varṇantattvañca → varṇam tattvam ca; viṣayamekaikaṃ → viṣayam eka-ekam.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 83 (Sāṅkhya–Yoga / tattva-nirūpaṇa section)
It signals a systematic listing method: for each item (winds/channels/senses), the text enumerates its tattva (principle), viṣaya (operating object), and a fivefold cluster of defining qualities—useful for Sankhya–Yoga style classification.
Rather than narrative, it uses a technical cataloging approach—defining principles, domains, and attributes—showing the Agni Purana’s compendium style that includes philosophical taxonomy alongside ritual and practical sciences.
By clarifying how senses and their objects are structured and qualified, it supports discernment (viveka) and restraint of sense-engagement—foundational for purification of conduct and mind in dharmic practice.
