अध्याय 82 — संस्कारदीक्षाकथनम्
Saṃskāra-Dīkṣā: Consecratory Initiation
Lord Agni (narrating ritual procedure to Sage Vasiṣṭha, as per the common Agni Purana dialogue frame)
Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Mantra","secondary_vidya":"Tantra","practical_application":"Homa-prayoga: selecting proper fire condition (smokeless, blazing) and using a specific bīja-mantra formula to ensure iṣṭa-siddhi; diagnosing failure when fire is smoky/weak.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Mantra","entry_title":"Hāṃ-traya Mantra and Homa Success Condition (Nirdhūma Jvalita Agni)","lookup_keywords":["ॐ हां हां हां","ātmane namaḥ","nirdhūma agni","homa siddhi","sadhūma failure"],"quick_summary":"Offer with the ‘Om hāṃ hāṃ hāṃ ātmane namaḥ’ mantra only when the fire is strong and smokeless; a weak smoky fire is a ritual defect that blocks intended results."}
Concept: Outer agni mirrors inner clarity: smokeless blazing fire signifies unobstructed offering and focused intent; defects in the medium impair the fruit.
Application: Before homa, correct fuel, airflow, and dryness to remove smoke; treat fire-quality as a diagnostic for ritual readiness.
Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Homa-vidhi / Agni-karya)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A homa altar with a bright, smokeless flame; the officiant offers ghee while reciting ‘Om hāṃ hāṃ hāṃ ātmane namaḥ’; beside it, a contrasting weak smoky fire shown as inauspicious.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, symmetrical homa-kuṇḍa, tall clean flame without smoke, priest in white with ladle, mantra syllables stylized in the air, contrasting panel with smoky dull fire","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore style, gold foil on the flame and ladle, ornate homa-kuṇḍa border, mantra letters embossed, clear depiction of smokeless brilliance versus smoky failure vignette","mysore_prompt":"Mysore style, didactic split-scene: ‘approved fire’ (jājvalyamāna, nirdhūma) and ‘unapproved fire’ (apravṛddha, sadhūma), neat detailing of fuel and airflow","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, refined ritual courtyard, priest offering ghee, thin blue-gray smoke absent in the successful fire, calligraphic mantra cartouche, secondary scene of smoky fire as caution"}

It gives a practical rule of homa: oblations should be offered only when the fire is strong and smokeless; a weak, smoky fire is considered ritually ineffective for accomplishing the intended siddhi (result).
Alongside theology, the text preserves applied ritual-technology—diagnosing correct fire conditions (fuel, heat, smoke) and linking them to efficacy—showing the Purana’s handbook-like coverage of ceremonial procedure.
It emphasizes that proper conditions and purity in ritual action determine karmic fruit: a well-kindled, clean (nirdhūma) fire supports successful offering and intended merit, while negligence (smoky, weak fire) obstructs the rite’s spiritual effectiveness.
