Chapter 81 —
Procedure for Samaya Initiation

Lord Agni (narrating ritual procedure to Sage Vasiṣṭha, as per the usual Agni Purāṇa frame)

Concept: Ritual efficacy depends on correct mantra-śakti (even across recensional variants), proper nyāsa (deity embodiment), and the primacy of inner offering (bhāva) over mere externals.
Application: During pūjā, stabilize attention by nyāsa and complete the offering through bhāva-puṣpa—mental devotion synchronized with mantra.

Related Themes: Agni Purana 81 (Śaiva pūjā-vidhi: bīja-mantra, nyāsa, maṇḍala, bhāva-upacāra)
It teaches a Śaiva pūjā sequence using bīja-mantras (huṃ/phaṭ and variant mantra-strings), establishing the deity via āsana, maṇḍala, and nyāsa, and then offering worship through bhāva-puṣpa (mental/devotional offerings).
It preserves practical tantric-ritual details—mantra variants, protective adjuncts (varma), maṇḍala design, and nyāsa—showing the Agni Purāṇa’s role as a manual that compiles liturgy, mantra-science, and temple/household worship procedures.
By installing Śiva through nyāsa and worshipping with inner ‘flowers’ of devotion, the rite emphasizes purity of intention (bhāva) alongside correct ritual form, aiming at protection, purification, and merit through focused Śiva-upāsanā.
