Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tantra","secondary_vidya":"Mantra","practical_application":"Teaches Śaiva mantra-prayoga: dīpana (energizing) using śikhā-sampuṭita bījas and hrūṃ with phaṭ; tarpaṇa using mantras beginning with oṃ hauṃ śivāya svāhā.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Śaiva dīpana with śikhā-sampuṭa bījas and tarpaṇa with ‘oṃ hauṃ śivāya svāhā’ series","lookup_keywords":["śikhā-sampuṭa","bīja","hrūṃ phaṭ","dīpana","oṃ hauṃ śivāya svāhā"],"quick_summary":"Energize the rite by enclosing seed-syllables in śikhā-sampuṭa and using hrūṃ-phaṭ as astra; then perform tarpaṇa with the ‘oṃ hauṃ śivāya svāhā’ mantra-series."}

Weapon Type: Astra (phaṭ as weapon-mantra marker)

Concept: Mantra-śakti is activated (dīpana) through bīja-structure (sampuṭa) and safeguarded via astra (phaṭ); worship culminates in tarpaṇa.

Application: When performing Śaiva homa/tarpaṇa, apply correct bīja-framing and astra markers to avoid mantra-vyatyaya and to strengthen ritual efficacy.

Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi / Mantra-tantra (Śaiva homa–tarpaṇa procedures)

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A Śaiva ritualist performs dīpana by uttering bījas framed with śikhā-sampuṭa, then offers tarpaṇa with ‘oṃ hauṃ śivāya svāhā’; protective energy is shown as a crest-like aura above the head and a sharp ‘phaṭ’ burst around the altar.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural: Śaiva priest with stylized śikhā-flame crest above head; mantra syllables depicted as glyphs encircling the fire; a ‘phaṭ’ burst motif like a protective ring; deep reds, ochres, and black outlines.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore: gold-leaf aura shaped like a śikhā above the practitioner; bīja-glyphs in a circular mandala; tarpaṇa offerings with ornate kalasha; gold highlights on mantra ring and flames.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore: semi-diagrammatic ritual scene—labels for śikhā-sampuṭa, hrūṃ-phaṭ, and ‘oṃ hauṃ śivāya svāhā’; clear depiction of offering gestures and vessels; soft pastel palette.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature: intimate ritual chamber with fire altar; calligraphic mantra-glyphs floating; the ‘crest’ motif above the priest; fine detailing of utensils and textiles."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"contemplative","suggested_raga":"Bhairav","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}

FAQs

It specifies mantra-prayoga: using bīja-mantras framed by śikhā-sampuṭa and sealed with ‘phaṭ’ for dīpana (energizing/kindling), and employing “oṃ hauṃ śivāya svāhā” and related mantras for tarpaṇa (satiating offerings/libations).

It functions like a compact ritual-technology note—cataloging precise mantra components (bīja, sampuṭa, phaṭ, svāhā) and mapping them to specific rites (dīpana, tarpaṇa), illustrating the Agni Purāṇa’s manual-like coverage of pūjā-vidhi alongside its many other disciplines.

Performed correctly, dīpana is meant to activate and protect the rite through mantra-śakti, while tarpaṇa ritually ‘satisfies’ the deity (here Śiva) via offerings—supporting purification, steadiness of worship, and the accrual of religious merit (puṇya) through proper observance.
