Chapter 81 —
Procedure for Samaya Initiation

Concept: Mantra-sādhana depends on valid transmission (dīkṣā) that installs ‘bīja’ (seed-power) and adhikāra; otherwise practice becomes barren.
Application: Seek initiation from a competent ācārya within a living paramparā; verify that mantra, nyāsa, and samaya are properly bestowed before undertaking japa/homa.

Related Themes: Agni Purana 81.11–81.12 (types of dīkṣā; kriyāvatī vs jñānavatī)
It defines dīkṣā as the rite that grants adhikāra (ritual authorization) to both disciple and teacher, and warns that a nirbīja (seedless, non-empowered) initiation lacks mantric efficacy.
By codifying initiation theory—adhikāra, guru–śiṣya roles, and the requirement of bīja/mantra-śakti—it preserves a technical ritual framework alongside the Purāṇa’s many other disciplines.
It emphasizes that valid initiation is a purificatory empowerment that makes practice fruitful; without proper mantric ‘seed’ and authorization, rites tend toward spiritual sterility and reduced merit.
