The Rite of Raising/Placing the Pavitra
Lord Agni (in discourse to sage Vasiṣṭha, typical Agni Purana narration style)

Related Themes: Agni Purana 79 (āvaraṇa/pūjā sequencing; pavitraka context)
It teaches the correct ritual sequence for pavitraka-dāna: recite a mantra terminating in “Śiva,” then bestow the pavitraka as a purifier/consecrating implement, with Śiva’s name used as the sanctifying utterance.
It preserves a precise, procedural detail of temple/home worship technology (pujā-vidhi)—how specific mantras and ritual objects (pavitraka) are applied—showing the text’s catalog-like coverage of practical liturgy alongside theology.
Using “Śiva” as the sanctifying conclusion and offering a pavitraka emphasizes purification and auspiciousness, aiming to protect the rite, remove impurity/obstacles, and accrue merit through disciplined observance (suvrata).
