Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Mantra-śuddhi with Sadyojāta and Hṛdaya: purification of pavitra and ritual implements (21 repetitions)","lookup_keywords":["Sadyojāta mantra","Hṛdaya mantra","mantra-śuddhi","pavitra","ekaviṃśati"],"quick_summary":"Purify key ritual implements by reciting Sadyojāta and the heart-mantra in a connected sequence, repeating the purification cycle twenty-one times; this standardizes śuddhi even amid textual variants of subsidiary formulae."}
Concept: Mantra as a purifier (śodhaka) and connector (saṃhitā/saṃbandha-pāṭha) that ‘re-makes’ objects into fit instruments of worship through repetition and intention.
Application: Adopt a fixed-count purification (21) for all key upakaraṇas before pūjā/homa; keep the recitation continuous to preserve saṃhitā integrity and mental focus.
Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi / Mantra-shuddhi (Ritual purification and mantra-based cleansing)

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Sandhi Resolution Notes: चोत्तरे = च + उत्तरे; शोधयेच्च = शोधयेत् + च. Verse contains extensive critical apparatus (variant readings) which are excluded from pada list; core instruction analyzed: ‘... sveti heti prayogeṇa mantrasaṃhitayā punaḥ śodhayecc pavitrāṇi vārāṇām ekaviṃśatim’.

It teaches mantra-śodhana: re-purifying pavitras and key ritual implements (staff, rosary-thread, loin-cloth, tīrtha-water, vessels) through connected recitation of the Sadyojāta and Hṛdaya mantras, performed for twenty-one repetitions.
It functions like a compact ritual manual, preserving procedural details (prayoga), lists of required implements, and even manuscript variants—showing how the Agni Purāṇa catalogues practical liturgical technology alongside other disciplines.
By ritually cleansing the pavitra and implements, the practitioner removes ritual impurity (aśuddhi) and safeguards the efficacy (siddhi/phala) of worship, ensuring offerings and mantra-recitation are deemed spiritually valid.
