Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"List","entry_title":"Svadhā-Recipients in Pitṛ-Tarpaṇa: Kavyavāhana to Barhiṣad Pitṛs","lookup_keywords":["kavyavāhana","barhiṣad pitṛ","svadhā","yama","aryaman"],"quick_summary":"The verse enumerates principal pitṛ-yajña recipients—fires and deities connected with ancestral conveyance and judgment—culminating in the Barhiṣad Pitṛs, to whom svadhā is offered."}
Concept: Correct adhikāra and recipient-specific offering: pitṛ-yajña succeeds by naming the proper carriers (kavyavāhana) and pitṛ classes (barhiṣad).
Application: Use the listed recipients as a checklist to avoid omission in śrāddha offerings and to align svadhā with pitṛ-domain deities.
Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Śrāddha / Pitṛ-tarpaṇa and offerings to ancestral deities)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A ritualist offers water/oblations while the named deities and pitṛs appear as a receiving assembly: Kavyavāhana as a sacred fire-messenger, Soma luminous, Yama austere, Aryaman dignified, and Barhiṣad Pitṛs seated on kusa/barhis mats.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, stylized divine assembly above a śrāddha altar: Kavyavāhana as flame-form, Soma with moon icon, Yama with staff, Aryaman radiant, Barhiṣad Pitṛs in serene rows on barhis, ritualist below offering svadhā.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore gold-work, tiered composition: central Soma and Yama with halos, Kavyavāhana as ornate flame, Barhiṣad Pitṛs in gold-embossed frames, ritualist presenting oblations, rich jewel tones.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore style, didactic panel with labeled figures (Kavyavāhana, Anala, Soma, Yama, Aryaman, Agni-Soma, Barhiṣad Pitṛs), clean outlines, emphasis on offering gesture and svadhā text ribbon.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, courtly assembly of ancestral sages on grass mats, moonlit Soma above, Yama in darker attire, fine calligraphy cartouches naming recipients, ritualist at lower margin with offering bowl."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: कव्यबालानलायाथ = कव्यबालानलाय + अथ; चाग्निसोमाय = च + अग्निसोमाय.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 72 (pitṛ-tarpaṇa mantras and recipients)
It specifies the sequence and target deities for śrāddha/pitṛ-offerings—invoking the Pitṛ-carrying fire (Kavyavāhana), allied deities (Soma, Yama, Aryaman, Agni-Soma), and the Barhiṣad Pitṛs, using the svadhā formula.
It preserves a precise ritual taxonomy—names, classes of Pitṛs (Barhiṣad), and mantra-marker (svadhā)—showing the Agni Purana’s compendium-style coverage of applied dharma and household ceremonial practice.
Correctly directing svadhā-offerings to the proper Pitṛ-deities is taught as a means to satisfy ancestors, uphold lineage duties (pitṛ-ṛṇa), and gain purification and merit through properly performed śrāddha.
