Concept: Ritual efficacy is joined to ethical reciprocity: honoring the guru (dakṣiṇā) accompanies the technical rite.

Application: In major śānti/abhiṣeka rites, include proper remuneration and respect for the officiant alongside correct mantra and vessel-direction rules.

FAQs

It prescribes a specific abhiṣeka protocol: prepare ghee for the fire-rite, give a cow as dakṣiṇā to the officiant, and anoint Varuṇa using water drawn from the east-placed consecrated kalaśa while reciting the “samudra-jyeṣṭha” mantra.

It exemplifies the text’s procedural detail in ritual technology—covering sequencing (homa preparation → dakṣiṇā → mantra-led abhiṣeka), spatial ritual layout (eastern kalaśa), and deity-specific worship (Varuṇa), showing the Purāṇa’s manual-like breadth beyond narrative.

Offering dakṣiṇā (a cow) honors the transmitting lineage (guru) and is held to complete the rite; Varuṇa-abhiṣeka with mantra is aimed at purification and harmonizing the water principle—supporting śānti (appeasement), order (ṛta), and auspiciousness.
