FAQs

It gives a Vāstu-śāstra rule: the staff/pole is measured as twice the door’s length, and the temple’s dhvaja-yaṣṭi (flagstaff) is to be positioned specifically in the NE (Īśāna) or alternatively the NW (Vāyavya) direction.

Beyond theology, the Agni Purana preserves practical architectural standards—proportions, placement, and directional rules—showing how Purāṇic literature also functioned as a compendium for temple design and ritual infrastructure.

Correct measurement and directional placement are treated as aligning the temple with auspicious cosmic order (dik-śuddhi), supporting proper worship and maintaining the sanctity and efficacy of the deity’s abode.
