The Greatness of the Gaṅgā

FAQs

It introduces tīrtha-vidyā and nadī-māhātmya: the practical instruction is to approach and revere the Gaṅgā as a sacred purifier whose association is spiritually efficacious.

It shows the text’s coverage of sacred geography and pilgrimage theory—mapping spiritual merit to places and rivers—alongside its many other domains (ritual, polity, medicine, poetics).

The verse states that service to the Gaṅgā yields both bhukti (worldly welfare) and mukti (liberation), and that regions touched by her flow are inherently purifying (pāvana).
