Varaha Purana 28.19 — Adhyaya 28, Shloka 19

The Manifestation of Māyā as Durgā/Kātyāyanī and the Slaying of Vaitrāsura

FAQs

It preserves a Purāṇic cosmogonic motif linking Brahmā’s creative role with primordial waters connected to Viṣṇu, reflecting interwoven Vaiṣṇava and broader Sanskrit cosmological traditions.

No specific terrestrial site is named in this verse; the setting is mythic-cosmological (primordial waters described as arising from Viṣṇu’s foot).

Rather than a direct moral rule, the verse foregrounds disciplined recitation (japa) and the contemplative focus on the “inner knower” (kṣetrajña), presenting a philosophical model of regulated practice and inward awareness.
