Type: ghat
Listener: Mahādeva/Śaṅkara
Scene: Maṇināga petitions Mahādeva to remain at the spot as a partial manifestation and to abide within Narmadā’s waters ‘by a thousandth part,’ requesting the deity bear his name for the world’s benefit.
A tīrtha becomes salvific when the Lord consents to abide there—divine presence is invoked for loka-kalyāṇa (the welfare of all).
The Narmadā (Revā) river and a particular spot on its waters where Śiva is requested to abide as an aṃśa.
Implicitly, the verse sets up the idea of establishing Śiva’s presence at a site (foundation for liṅga-pratiṣṭhā and tīrtha worship).
