It teaches that outer ritual (homa and orderly completion of pūjā) should culminate in inner discipline—mantra-japa—so the devotee’s attention becomes steady in Śiva (Pati), loosening bondage (pāśa) through regulated practice.
The verse reflects standard liṅga-pūjā sequencing: offerings are made and the worship is formally concluded, after which the devotee turns to mantra repetition—honouring Saguna Śiva through rite while moving toward deeper recollection of His reality.
Perform the worship and oblations exactly as prescribed, complete the remaining pūjā steps, and then undertake mantra-japa (commonly the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) for the stated count or duration.
