Umāyāḥ Kriyāyoga-Rahasya
The Esoteric Teaching on Umā’s Kriyāyoga
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga passage; it universalizes Devī’s salvific reach: establishing Devī’s splendid mūrti becomes a transgenerational deliverance (tāraṇa) for ancestors and descendants across vast time.
Significance: Frames Devī-pratiṣṭhā as a powerful act of ‘tāraṇa’ benefiting kula; motivates endowments as both personal and ancestral uplift, akin to pitṛ-tarpaṇa expanded into Devī’s grace economy.
Shakti Form: Tārā
Role: liberating
Offering: naivedya
Cosmic Event: ākalpāt (from the beginning of the kalpa) evokes vast cyclical time across kalpas
The verse teaches that consecrated worship of the Goddess (Śakti), inseparable from Śiva, becomes a channel of grace that uplifts not only the devotee but also the entire lineage—past and future—by helping them “cross over” bondage toward liberation.
In Shaiva Siddhanta, Saguna worship (with form) is a valid means for receiving anugraha (divine grace). Establishing the Devi’s murti parallels establishing the Śiva-liṅga: both are sanctified supports for devotion through which Pati (Śiva) and His Śakti bestow purification and spiritual elevation.
It points to murti-saṁsthāpana/pratiṣṭhā (proper installation and ongoing pūjā) with bhakti and purity of conduct; practitioners may support this with Shaiva disciplines such as japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and regular worship, treating the installed form as a living focus for meditation and grace.
