Bhāratavarṣa–Navabheda-Vyavasthā
The Nine Divisions of Bhāratavarṣa and Its Sacred Geography

Cosmic Event: purāṇic cosmography of dvīpas/varṣas (Puṣkaradvīpa ring-division)
By describing the ordered, ring-like structure of the worlds, the Purana points to Īśvara’s (Shiva’s) governance of cosmic order (ṛta). For the seeker, such knowledge supports viveka—seeing the world as structured and limited, and turning inward toward Pati (Shiva) for liberation.
Cosmological descriptions frame Shiva as Saguna Īśvara—the Lord who upholds and measures the manifested universe. Linga-worship honors that same Lord as the cosmic pillar and ground of all realms, while also leading the mind beyond form toward Shiva’s transcendent reality.
Use the cosmos-as-mandala contemplation: meditate on Shiva as the inner center (madhya) that silently pervades and ‘divides’ all experiences. Support this with japa of the Panchakshara mantra—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—to shift attention from outer measurements to inner liberation.
