The Greatness of Viṣṇu
Viṣṇor Māhātmya
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada in a dharma–bhakti context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It contrasts enjoyment-motivated action (upabhoga-artham karma) with devotion-driven action, declaring that the merit of deeds performed in bhakti is immeasurable compared to ordinary welfare gained from worldly aims.
It implies that bhakti transforms action: the same “doing” becomes spiritually boundless in fruit when performed by saints with devotion, surpassing limited results obtained from actions aimed at pleasure or personal gain.
No specific Vedanga (like Vyakarana, Jyotisha, or Kalpa) is taught directly; the practical takeaway is ethical intention in ritual/action—motivation matters, and bhakti-oriented performance is praised as yielding incalculable punya.
