Damayantī’s Message and the Dispatch of Brahmin Envoys
The verse highlights dharmic conduct in social relations: proper hospitality (pūjā/sat-kāra) should be accepted without arrogance, and one should preserve loyalty and steadiness by remaining with trusted companions even while living under another king’s protection.
After Ṛtuparṇa speaks to him (in the surrounding context, offering shelter/employment), Nala stays in Ṛtuparṇa’s city, honoured and accommodated, along with Vārṣṇeya and Jīvala—marking Nala’s temporary residence at Ṛtuparṇa’s court during his period of concealment and recovery.
