Sūrya-stava: Dhaumya’s Counsel and the Aṣṭaśata-nāma of Sūrya

Educational Q&A

Purity of conduct (such as ritual cleanliness), mental clarity, and focused recitation of a sacred hymn are presented as practical disciplines that dissolve grief and help one cross the turbulent condition of saṃsāra; devotion becomes a moral and psychological medicine, restoring steadiness and enabling rightful attainment of one’s aims.

Dhaumya is instructing the listener about the fruit (phalaśruti) of reciting a name-hymn to Sūrya: a person who chants it with purity and concentration is freed from the grief-filled ocean of worldly life and gains the desired results.
