व्यास उवाच
The verse observes that people pursue different livelihoods—some rooted in self-sustaining work like farming and cattle-care, others choosing wage-service and travel for wealth—highlighting the ethical reality that artha (material pursuit) shapes human choices and social roles.
Vyāsa is describing common human occupations and motivations: certain people remain with agrarian and pastoral work, while others leave home to work in service for pay, emphasizing the diversity of life-paths in society.
